Abstract

The article deals with the concept of the size of geometric figures and emphasises the distinction between a geometric figure and its measure. Using examples from elementary geometry, it shows how length, area, and polygonal dissections can be treated. The main focus is on equidecomposability of polygons, their basic properties, and their relation to area. The text also recalls historical and didactic aspects of the topic and illustrates them through several visual problems, including dissection-based proofs of the Pythagorean theorem.
