Abstract

The report describes an exceptional achievement of the Czech team at the 39th International Young Physicists’ Tournament, held in Zurich in July 2026. The Czech Republic won a gold medal for the first time since 1998, competing against teams from 35 countries. The article briefly explains the nature of the competition, which is based on year-long work on open-ended physics problems, experimental investigation, theoretical modelling, and scientific debate in Physics Fights. It then follows the Czech team’s performance through the individual rounds and explains the circumstances leading to its final fourth-place position, which secured a gold medal. The members of the national team and its leaders are identified, and the contribution of a broader group of organisers and expert consultants is acknowledged.
